Home base, on the Lake Keowee side of Oconee County.
Salem is where Nature’s View Lawnscapes is based, which makes it the shortest drive we make and the lawns we see most often. It is also a genuinely awkward place to grow grass: the elevation climbs toward the Blue Ridge escarpment, the lake moderates some of it, and the soil underneath is the same heavy Piedmont clay that runs through the rest of the Upstate.
That mix means Salem lawns split hard between fescue on the shaded, higher lots and warm-season grass on the open ones — and the two want completely opposite treatment calendars. Our programs are built around that split rather than around a single generic schedule.
Salem sits in the upper Piedmont at the foot of the Blue Ridge escarpment, higher and a few degrees cooler than Anderson or Easley. The soil is the same dense red clay found across the region — slow to drain, quick to compact, and acidic enough that lime belongs in every annual program rather than being treated as a one-off correction. The practical consequence is that water applied quickly runs off instead of soaking in, and that core aeration does more for a Salem lawn than almost any product will.
Properties close to the Keowee shoreline, including the Keowee Key and Cliffs communities, tend to be mature, heavily treed and sloped toward the water. Shade pushes those lawns toward fescue whether or not the homeowner chose it, slope carries fertilizer and water downhill before either is absorbed, and tree competition for water is real. Those lawns are usually a fescue program plus aggressive attention to aeration — not a warm-season program that will never get the sun it needs.
An Upstate July is hot and humid enough that brown patch is the default expectation on a fescue lawn, not a surprise. Our fescue programs build in a preventive protectant application ahead of the heat rather than selling a rescue treatment after the circles appear. Watch for irregular, off-color circles and thinning patches, and call early — the treatment is cheap while the turf is still alive.
Warm-season grasses — Bermuda, Zoysia, Centipede — want aerification in the heat of summer while they are actively growing and can heal. Fescue wants it in early fall, right before its strongest growing window and in time to take seed. Aerating at the wrong end of the year is one of the most common inherited mistakes we see on a new client’s lawn.
I had been with a large company servicing my lawn for many years until I caught them “ghosting” my lawn service. I didn’t even know that was a real thing (fake lawn treatments). I found Nature’s View by chance on the way to work one morning from an advertisement on their vehicle. The response was immediate and we entered into a lawn service agreement. In only one season I saw tremendous improvement in my lawn. This is my third year with Nature’s View and the lawn continues to thrive. No crab grass at all this year! That’s a first for me. Thanks Nature’s View for your support and care for my lawn. It’s nice to see the results of integrity and good work ethic.
I contracted with Natures View in January 2020. Aaron provided me options based on an assessment of my lawn and my wishes. My lawn looks the best ever. Aaron keeps me updated on the schedule for applications and has done an exceptional job for me. I highly recommend Nature’s View!
